2012               Tottenham               Hotspur               midseason               review:               Overall

Usually               you               can               read               teams               by               this               stage               of               the               season.

Perhaps               the               most               frustrating               thing               about               Spurs               right               now               is               that               I'm               still               not               sure               what               to               think               about               this               team's               quality.

Are               they               a               middle-of-the-road               side               that               will               struggle               to               defeat               the               likes               of               City,               Arsenal,               Stoke               and               even               Newcastle,               or               are               they               really               a               Champions               League               team               that's               finally               finding               their               form?

I               honestly               cannot               adequately               answer               that               question               right               now,               and               that               makes               me               both               nervous               and               excited               about               what               is               to               come.

However,               he               faces               a               very               tough               task               to               keep               his               side               in               the               Premier               League.

A               slow               start               to               a               league               campaign               may               not               be               a               new               experience               for               his               club,               but               recovering               in               the               Premier               League               is               far               harder               than               in               the               Championship.
And               he               will               know               that               the               longer               he               goes               on               without               a               league               win,               the               harder               the               job               will               get.

Judging               by               some               of               the               comments               that               the               Reading               players               are               making,               there               appears               to               be               plenty               of               confidence               in               the               team.
Before               the               home               game               against               Norwich,               they               were               spouting               about               the               need               to               secure               a               home               win.

Of               course,               the               game               itself               finished               0-0,               but               that               doesn't               seem               to               have               changed               much               because               since               the               game               they               have               been               talking               about               how               they               deserved               to               win.
Speaking               with               my               yellow               and               green               hat               on,               I               might               claim               that               it               was               the               Canaries               that               deserved               all               three               points.

But               I'm               honest               enough               to               admit               that               this               was               a               dire               game               that               neither               side               deserved               to,               or               showed               enough               ambition               to               win.
Therefore,               I               would               worry               that               the               Reading               players               might               be               a               little               bit               complacent               about               their               position               and               believe               their               ability               to               turn               it               around.

Of               course,               this               is,               arguably,               better               than               the               attitude               that               suggests               that               they               are               doomed               no               matter               what               they               do.
However,               you               can               only               go               along               with               the               ultra-positive               outlook               for               so               long.

I               think               at               some               point;               the               club               has               to               pick               up               points,               rather               than               just               saying               that               they               deserve               to.

I               see               that               their               goalkeeper,               Adam               Federici,               is               reluctant               to               see               an               influx               of               new               players               in               the               January               transfer               window               that               could               destroy               team               spirit.
In               most               cases,               I               agree               with               such               a               statement,               but               I               think               in               Reading's               case               they               don't               have               a               lot               of               choice.

Any               momentum               they               had               from               the               Championship               seems               to               have               quickly               disappeared,               and               they               need               to               start               picking               up               wins               sooner               rather               than               later.
What               they               really               need               is               some               true               Premier               League               quality,               but               they               should               tread               carefully               because               QPR               have               proved               that               top-flight               quality               is               no               guarantee               of               success.

Although,               I               do               think               it               is               the               quality               in               the               Norwich               squad               that               will               separate               them               from               the               bottom               pack.
I               have               great               respect               for               whatever               our               manager,               Chris               Hughton,               has               to               say,               but               I               simply               don't               agree               that               the               Canaries               are               the               same               as               everyone               else.

I               think               there               are               some               special               qualities               within               the               camp               that               other               clubs               don't               have.
The               January               transfer               window               will               certainly               offer               an               opportunity               for               the               Premier               League               strugglers,               but               I               would               rather               have               the               points               on               the               board               than               the               money               in               the               bank.

The               upcoming               transfer               window               seldom               offers               values               for               money,               and               it's               very               difficult               to               integrate               new               players               into               the               team               so               quickly.
Therefore,               I               feel               the               current               bottom               three               have               their               work               cut               out               to               save               them.

In               any               case,               I'm               confident               Chris               Hughton's               will               keep               Norwich               in               the               top-flight,               even               if               he               can't               personally               add               to               his               squad               in               January.
James               Kent               has               been               a               Norwich               City               fan               for               a               number               of               years;               he               is               currently               enjoying               the               new               Premier               League               season,               follow               him               on               Twitter               and               Facebook.
