English               Premier               League               Review               -               Week               2
Although               the               first               weekend               of               games               created               plenty               of               talking               points               midweek,               the               big               news               was               the               transfer               (finally)               of               Cesc               Fabregas               to               Barcelona.

Fabregas               is               a               tremendous               player               who               is               going               to               thrive               coming               off               the               bench               with               highly               technical               players               around               him.

The               Premier               League               was               too               tough               a               league,               Arsenal               not               talented               enough,               and               they               received               a               handsome               fee               for               his               services.

The               question               is               what               moves               Arsenal               will               look               to               make               with               a               rapidly               approached               end               to               the               transfer               window               (http://bit.ly/neQ0A0)               and               all               the               cash               they               received               for               Fabregas.

Another               one               of               the               Gunners'               best               players,               Samir               Nasri,               is               also               the               rumors               of               an               imminent               transfer.
As               some               may               already               know,               I               am               trying               to               set               the               stage               for               the               biggest               game               of               the               weekend               -               Liverpool               at               Arsenal.

While               Nasri               (surprisingly)               received               the               start               for               an               extremely               young               side,               who               got               younger               after               17               minutes               when               one               of               their               center               backs,               Laurent               Koscielny,               left               the               game               with               a               back               injury.

He               was               replaced               by               18               year               old               Spaniard               Ignasi               Miguel,               making               his               premier               league               debut.

Liverpool               started               a               defensive               unit               and               after               a               decent               start,               spent               a               large               majority               of               the               game               in               their               back               third.

Until               the               71st               minute               when               one               the               Arsenal               youngsters,               Emmanuel               Frimpong,               received               his               second               yellow               and               got               his               marching               orders               in               his               first               Premier               League               match.

Liverpool,               sensing               blood               at               being               up               a               man,               subbed               in               Luis               Suarez               and               Raul               Meireles               to               kick-start               the               offense.

After               an               incredibly               unlucky               own               goal               by               Arsenal               put               Liverpool               up               1-0,               the               Reds               finished               the               job               by               scoring               a               clinical               goal               in               the               91st               minute.

Arsenal               have               received               a               red               card               in               each               game               this               year,               while               not               scoring               a               goal.

In               the               words               of               Vince               Lombardi               -               http://bit.ly/r1tJOI.

As               a               Liverpool               fan,               this               was               a               huge               win.

Now               all               we               need               to               do               is               get               Suarez               fit               to               play               90               minutes               of               every               game               and               figure               out               a               way               to               get               something               out               of               his               strikepartner               up               top.

Andy               Carroll               so               far               has               proven               to               be               not               much               more               than               a               big               body               up               front               for               Liverpool.

He               needs               to               start               to               make               some               positive               contributions.
Other               Saturday               games               saw               Newcastle               take               a               hard-fought               1-0               victory               over               Sunderland.

Joey               Barton               again               played               instigator               and               Sunderland               could               not               take               advantage               of               their               possession               dominance.

Aston               Villa               got               a               nice               win               over               Blackburn               with               goals               from               Agbonlahor,               Heskey               and               Darren               Bent.

The               key               to               Villa's               season               is               getting               support               around               Bent               and               if               this               game               is               any               indication,               they               could               be               on               to               something.

Swansea               and               Wigan               played               to               a               0-0               draw               (enough               said).

After               an               early               scare,               Chelsea               got               a               pair               of               goals               (Anelka,               Malouda)               to               win               their               home               debut               and               got               Villas-Boas               his               first               victory.

The               big               upset               of               the               day               came               at               Goodison               Park               where               QPR,               fresh               off               a               4-0               drubbing               last               week,               got               a               great               win               against               an               Everton               side               who               looked               sluggish               and               felt               the               pain               of               a               couple               difficult               referee               decisions               and               a               terrible               miss               by               Tim               Cahill.
Sunday's               games               took               the               excitement               up               a               notch,               starting               at               Carrow               Road               where               Norwich               took               a               1-0               first               half               lead               over               Stoke,               but               were               on               the               receiving               end               of               a               tough               red               card.

But,               as               it               usually               happens               when               a               team               is               jobbed,               John               Ruddy               came               up               with               a               huge               save               on               the               penalty.

Unfortunately,               for               the               Canaries,               Kenwyne               Jones               showed               why               he               is               the               most               feared               striker               in               the               air               and               headed               in               a               cross               at               the               death               (91st               minute).

A               tough               pill               to               swallow               for               Norwich,               but               the               fans               had               to               be               happy               with               the               performance               on               the               home               opener.

Wolves               got               another               win               and               sit               atop               the               table               with               the               two               teams               from               Manchester               after               they               scored               two               goals               within               four               minutes               in               the               first               half               against               a               lethargic               Fulham               squad.

At               Reebok               stadium,               Manchester               City               took               an               early               lead               on               a               knuckling               shot               by               David               Silva               and               scored               a               second               from               a               wicked               screamer               from               Gareth               Barry               (http://bit.ly/pfMV2E).

Ivan               Klasnic               (http://bit.ly/ptpCOQ)               took               one               back               from               the               home               team               before               the               break,               but               player               of               the               match               Eden               Dzeko               (http://bit.ly/pszJWj)               helped               City               to               a               two               goal               lead               again.

Kevin               Davies               scored               the               final               of               five               good               goals               on               the               day,               but               wasn't               even               to               get               Bolton               any               result.
The               final               game               of               the               week               saw               Manchester               United               in               their               home               opener               in               EPL's               version               of               Monday               Night               Football               score               three               goals               in               the               final               30               minutes               to               beat               Tottenham               in               the               Spurs'               season               opener.

Interestingly,               I               thought               78               year               old               American               keeper               Brad               Friedel               (OK,               he's               only               40)               was               the               man               of               the               match               in               a               game               where               he               had               a               number               of               outstanding               saves               for               his               new               team               and               no               chance               on               any               of               the               goals.

Most               impressive               were               the               performances               of               the               youngsters               for               ManU.

You               expected               a               great               game               from               Rooney               of               course,               but               Smalling,               Cleverley,               Wellbeck               (http://bit.ly/q7FsE7)               and               Evans               all               played               exceptionally               well.
Gameweek               2               had               a               number               of               outstanding               goals               and               had               left               us               with               three               teams               with               maximum               points               and               four               with               no               points.

Looks               like               I               will               have               a               full               day               on               the               couch               this               upcoming               Sunday               as               Tottenham               hosts               City               and               United               is               home               to               Arsenal.

Before               we               look               ahead,               I               need               to               name               top               performers               for               the               week               that               was:
               *               Erdin               Dzeko               (Man               City)               -               Game-winning               goal               for               City               in               a               game               where               they               needed               it
               **Ryan               Taylor               (Newcastle)               -               Q.

Was               it               a               cross               or               a               shot?

A.

It               was               a               game               winning               goal
***Tommy               Smith               (QPR)               -               full               team               effort               by               the               Rangers,               but               the               glory               goes               to               the               goalscorer
